Dr. Olena Ivanova

Dr. Olena Ivanova

Senior Research Fellow in Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health

Dr. Olena Ivanova is a Senior Research Fellow at the SPHERE Centre of Research Excellence in Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health at Monash University (Australia), and an Affiliated Senior Researcher at the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, LMU University Hospital (Germany). She holds a PhD in Health Sciences, a medical degree, and a Master’s in Public Health from leading European institutions. Her international, multidisciplinary research focuses on advancing equity and innovation in sexual and reproductive health (SRH), with expertise ranging from adolescent pregnancy and comprehensive sexuality education to the co-design and evaluation of digital health and AI tools rooted in everyday practices and sociocultural realities across diverse SRH settings. Olena is the founder of Women’s Health & FemTech Ukraine and co-founder and board member of FemTech Germany, where she drives collaboration and innovation through strategic partnerships, cross-sector networks, and advisory roles within the global women’s health innovation ecosystem.

Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Social Justice at the School of Education, Society and Communication at King’s College London

Dr Billy Holzberg is a social theorist and sociologist of sexuality and gender, working as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Social Justice at the School of Education, Society and Communication at King’s College London. His research explores how the politics of sex, sexuality, and affect intersect with migration, nationalism, and racism. Billy is the co-editor of Transnational Anti-Gender Politics: Feminist Solidarity in Times of Global Attacks (Palgrave 2024) and the co-author of Bad Sex, Sexuality, Gender, and Affect in Contemporary TV (Bloomsbury 2005). He sits on the editorial board of the Sociological Review, is on the steering committee of Queer@King’s, and has been a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York City and at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil. Billy is committed to intersectional, queer- and trans-inclusive approaches to comprehensive sexuality education and sexual wellbeing, bringing his expertise in gender and sexuality studies, cultural analysis, and critical migration research to support the project’s mission of creating open and inclusive conversations about sex and relationships across Europe.

Associate Professor in the Promotion of Sexual Wellbeing and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE)

Prof. Dr. Kristien Michielsen is an Associate Professor in the Promotion of Sexual Wellbeing and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) at the Institute for Family and Sexuality Studies at the University of Leuven (Belgium). Being trained in social and political sciences (KU Leuven, 2001), Kristien has been conducting multidisciplinary research in the area of sexual and reproductive health since 2006, mainly focusing on the sexual health and wellbeing of young people. With CSE a core research focus of hers, Kristien has conducted studies in, amongst others, Belgium, Uganda and Ecuador. She recently authored a report for the European Commission on the status of CSE in Europe.

Cosimo Marco Scarcelli, PhD

Associate professor/reader at department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology of the University of Padua (Italy)

Cosimo Marco Scarcelli teaches New Media (BD in Communication) and Digital Culture and Society (MD in Strategies of Communication) at University of Padua, Italy. His research deals with: sexuality, gender and digital culture; intimacies; pornography; masculinities; love and emotions; and young people. He has been the principal editor of the book Gender and sexuality in the European media (Routledge, 2021) and associate editor of The International Encyclopedia of Gender, Media and Communication (Wiley, 2020). Moreover, Cosimo Marco is an editor of the Journal of Gender Studies and from 2016 to 2021 he served as vice-chair and then chair of ECREA’s Gender, Sexuality & Communication section. Cosimo Marco also works as a digital media educator (working primarily on the relations between digital media, gender and sexuality), in collaboration with various institutions and NGOs.
