1. What is the SexSense network?
SexSense is a hub of organisations and institutions promoting research and innovative practices on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE). It facilitates collaboration on project design, particularly within EU funding programmes, capacity building, research and advocacy.
2. What are the benefits of joining SexSense?
As a SexSense member, you can:
- Stay updated on CSE news and trends.
- Connect with other organisations to strengthen capacities.
- Influence CSE development and advocate for its relevance. [Only for Active Members.]
- Present and refine project ideas to secure EU grants. [Only for Active Members.]
- Access capacity-building opportunities.
3. What are the membership categories?
There are two types of members:
- Active Members: Actively engage in working groups, contribute to discussions, and participate in network initiatives.
- Associated Members: Engage with the network by sharing information and participating in capacity-building opportunities.
4. What are the main working groups (WGs) within SexSense?
SexSense operates through four WGs:
- WG1 – Advocacy & Communication: Focuses on raising awareness and strengthening CSE advocacy.
- WG2 – Research: Develops and supports research efforts in CSE.
- WG3 – Capacity Building: Facilitates learning and training opportunities.
- WG4 – Project Design & Fundraising: Supports members in securing funding and designing projects.
It is highly recommended for Active Members to be involved in one or more Working Groups.
5. What are the expectations for members?
While voluntary, active participation is key. Active Members are expected to contribute knowledge, time, and resources while benefiting from a peer-to-peer learning environment within their Working Group of choice. This includes attending 1 online meeting, 1 in-person meeting during the Annual Event & Assembly, sharing updates and sharing SexSense on their institutional social media, contributing to different mappings (resources, capacity building opportunities, events, potential members and project ideas), attending events and capacity buildings of choice, collaborating with fellow members. and attending the Annual Event & Assembly.
While the expectations for Associated Members are lower, it is still important that they be sharing updates with the network and participating in capacity-building opportunities.
Both Active and Associated Members are also encouraged to inform the SexSense Coordination Team when they accomplish anything relevant to the network – eg attending events related to CSE, promoting SexSense at an event or during an activity or project, working on a project with another SexSense member, etc. in order for SexSense and Members to join communication efforts and boost their impact.
6. How can I contribute to the network?
Active Members can contribute by:
- Participating in working group meetings (1 online; 1 in presence during the Annual Event & Assembly).
- Sharing SexSense’s social media posts.
- Collaborating on research projects.
- Contributing to the activities of mapping resources, capacity building opportunities, events, potential members, and project ideas.
- Suggesting capacity building and training opportunities, and taking part in those organised by fellow members.
- Suggesting funding opportunities and project ideas.
- Attending events and conferences, including the SexSense Annual Event & Assembly.
While Associated Members are not part of Working Groups, they can still contribute by sharing CSE resources and capacity-building and training opportunities.
7. How often do meetings take place?
Each Working Group meets twice a year: once online and once in person at the SexSense Annual Event & Assembly.
There are also additional opportunities to collaborate through online and in-person events, with one or more members, with or without the mediation of the SexSense Coordination Team.
8. What is the role of the SexSense Coordination Team (SSCT)?
The SSCT facilitates the network’s activities, coordinates communication, organises meetings, and ensures the smooth operation of working groups. It also provides members with tools and updates.
9. How can I stay informed about SexSense activities?
Members receive regular updates via the IntraNet, as well as direct emails, and can also follow the network’s activities on social media (Linkedin). You can also participate in meetings and events to stay engaged.
10. How can I share my organisation’s news and achievements with the network?
Members can share updates by contacting the SSCT directly via email at info@sex-sense.org. We welcome information on events attended, projects launched or completed, research published, or any other relevant accomplishments. These updates will be shared within the network to foster engagement and inspire collaboration.
11. How can I join SexSense?
If you are interested in becoming a member, whether active or associated, you can apply by filling in the Membership request form.

12. Can I suggest new members to join the network?
Yes! Members are encouraged to suggest potential new organisations that align with SexSense’s mission. This is done via SexSense’s IntraNet.
13. What events does SexSense organise?
SexSense hosts an Annual Event and Assembly, usually in winter of each year and aligned with EU call deadlines; as well as online seminars and capacity-building workshops.
14. What is the SexSense badge?
The SexSense badge is a symbol of membership that organisations can display on their websites to showcase their affiliation with the network.
